Ross’s Rant | May

Sponsored by Computaleta we are running a “Give-it-a-Go” area at the NZ Sign Expo in June, Auckland.  What this will entail is ……

a 20m x 8m stand divided into five areas where we will be demonstrating some signmaking skills and in particular some of the traditional hand skills involved in our trade, with the main focus of showcasing these to younger people to encourage them to have a go.  This is all part of our master plan to encourage young people to our trade.  Recently the NZSDA attended the Christchurch Schools Careers Expo and at the end of this month will be attending the same Expo in Auckland.  To support our vision of getting our industry noticed with the young guns, the NZSDA have created a new website for young people to register for our newly developed pre-training courses, this brand is called “Signee”.  The plan is to increase the supply of well pre-trained and enthusiastic young people so they come a knocking on your door looking for employment, as some of the feedback received recently from our members is that there is no good quality people to employ at present.

This is just another example of the time, money and resources that the NZSDA are putting into helping its members and once again proving that “what you get out of being a member”  is not always in front of your nose.

To this end we are asking for help and seeking volunteers for the “Give-it-a-Go “ area at the Expo for Friday, 15th June 9.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm.  If you think you can help us demonstrate some of the following Sign making skills, then please get in touch on 0800 0800 52.
