Are we actually Master Sign Makers???
This was the question I struggled with internally over 6 years ago, as a small three-person Sign Shop owner in Hamilton.
It has been so nice to see more of the sun over the last couple of weeks, and the longer evenings are definitely making it feel like summer is just around the corner. I think we’re in for a good one!
September involved a fair bit of travel for me, and I’ve come home with sore feet, plenty of ideas and a renewed appreciation for the industry we’re part of.
When business is tough, leadership gets tougher. Your team may be worried about job security, increasing workloads or what the future holds. You may be dealing with exactly the same uncertainty yourself. You don’t need to have all the answers. But how you lead during these periods matters.
Most sign and display businesses don’t think too much about insurance until something goes wrong. By then it’s too late to find out what your policy does and doesn’t cover.

It sounds like things are getting busy across the sign industry, with many of our members under the pump. It’s great to see the industry thriving, and hopefully that momentum continues as we head towards the end of the year.
From 1 April 2027, New Zealand’s Health and Safety at Work legislation will place greater emphasis on critical risks – hazards that could cause death, serious injury, illness or long-term harm.
