Life doesn’t have to stop after a sprain or strain

Sprains and strains account for over 1.3 million claims each year and millions of lost workdays.  Too much rest can slow recovery – gentle movement and suitable duties at work can support quicker recovery and improved mental wellbeing.

ACC’s new campaign shows how active recovery and staying connected to the workplace can help people recover faster and return to whānau, work and life, sooner.

ACC has developed some new recovery at work online resources and short videos for employers and their injured employees, especially those with low-complexity injuries like sprains and strains, including:

  • practical guides for active recovery
  • expert guidance from a physiotherapist to assist injured employees, including information on why ‘rest is not always best’ and how gentle movement supports recovery from a sprain or strain
  • videos and tips on the power of connection, and how to start a conversation with your injured employee about returning to work

ACC has also updated its weekly compensation information online with new resources and videos, to help injured workers understand if their eligible for weekly compensation, how to apply, how weekly compensation works when they’re recovering at work, and when they’ll get paid.

One of the biggest concerns for injured workers is knowing whether they’ll continue to receive payments during recovery. These online resources serve as a helpful reference for employers to share with their injured employees.

The new resources are designed to save time, make recovery easier, and help people return to what matters sooner.

Explore the online resources and share them with your teams: Get back to what matters, sooner and Weekly compensation
