Member Spotlight: Wilsigns Open Day
Wilsigns was founded 45 years ago by Murray and has long been a familiar name within the signage industry. Today, the business is owned by Vann, who brings over 20 years of industry experience and has spent the past five years continuing the legacy with a strong focus on craftsmanship, people, and doing things properly.
To acknowledge both the history of the business, a recent move into a new space, and the work that happens behind the scenes, Wilsigns recently held an Open Day. It was an invitation for people to step inside the workshop, meet the team, and gain a clearer understanding of what modern signwriting actually involves.
The Open Day wasn’t designed as a showcase in the traditional sense, but rather as an opportunity to slow things down and open the doors. Visitors were encouraged to wander through the space, ask questions, and see first hand the range of work that happens day to day.
One of the aims was to challenge the common perception that signage is simply logos or decals. The workshop walkthrough highlighted the broader scope of the trade, including building signage, way finding, digital printing, LED work, vehicle wraps, and event signage.
Sharing the building with a dedicated merch, screen printing, and embroidery business added another layer to the day. While the two businesses work closely together, many people are often unaware of how extensive the combined offering is until they see it operating under one roof.
Behind the scenes, Wilsigns has also been focused on strengthening its internal systems. Over recent years, the business has implemented software programmes to support clearer workflows, project tracking, and team communication, not to change how the business operates, but to support consistency and clarity in the work.
With apprentices on board, Wilsigns continues to invest in training and development, aligning real client projects with hands on learning. This approach allows apprentices to take ownership of specific jobs while building confidence and capability in a practical, structured way.
Alongside signage and wrap work, Wilsigns is also a stockist of FXD Workwear, offering clients the option to carry branding through signage, vehicles, and uniforms in a cohesive way.
The Open Day wasn’t about big numbers or making noise. It was about connection, transparency, and acknowledging the craft that sits behind the finished product. After 45 years, simply opening the doors and continuing the conversation felt like a fitting way to honour the legacy and keep it moving forward.
