The Reform of Vocational Education \/Training is well underway (RoVE), it is the largest vocational education transformation of our generation and one of the most significant milestones is the formation of new Workforce Development Councils (WDCs). \u00a0They will enable the industry to have a greater leadership role in vocational education and training with apprenticeships and are set out below.<\/p>\n
The permanent roles of the Workforce Development Councils (WDC) will ensure that the industry has a stronger voice in making New Zealand’s workforce fit for today, and for the future. \u00a0They will take a lead in ensuring learners develop the skills they need to be ready for the world of work. While they won\u2019t arrange training, they will provide skills leadership, set standards, and develop qualifications. They will moderate and endorse the suitability of programmes that lead to relevant qualifications that both learners and industry need now and for the generations to come. \u00a0They will also provide vocational education investment advice to TEC.<\/p>\n
RoVE are now seeking Expression of Interests from industry leaders who want to help establish the Workforce Development Councils that will advocate for their sectors and skill needs .\u00a0\u00a0 The Process is simple as each council requires a nominating or appointment committee to be established in order to support the process of governance body selection. \nAppointment Committees
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
\nSkills and experience\u00a0<\/strong>
\nEach committee will require a diverse group of members who bring a range of industry experience and mana in sectors relevant to each WDC. \u00a0All WDCs will have a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and we will ensure that all of these committees have\u00a0members with\u00a0significant Te Ao M\u0101ori connections and cultural competence. Experience appointing at a governance level is strongly\u00a0preferred. \u00a0Of critical importance will be excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a commitment to the kaupapa of the WDCs.<\/p>\n
\nAppointment Committee members will be responsible for the appointment of the first members of the Workforce Development Councils.
\nKey responsibilities are to:
\n\u2022 Agree on evaluation criteria for assessing candidates, based on the membership requirements and criteria set out in the Orders in Council.
\n\u2022 Assess candidates through agreed assessment criteria.
\n\u2022 Identify the persons who it considers are suitable<\/p>\n
\nMembers are responsible for declaring any potential conflict of interest to the other members of the Committee, as soon as the conflict arises. Any perceived conflicts of interest should be documented for transparency. We ask that if you intend to apply for a permanent WDC governance role you do not apply for an appointment to the nominations or appointments Committee for that Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nThe terms of appointment to the Appointments and Nominations Committees may vary and will be discussed with those who are appointed.
\nAt this stage, we expect that Committee appointments will be confirmed before the 1st of April. Committee members will need to be available for virtual meetings across several days throughout April.<\/p>\n
\nCommittee members are paid under the TEC Fees Payment Policy.
\nCommittee members will be paid $750 per day.<\/p>\n
