{"id":14261,"date":"2020-10-14T16:14:26","date_gmt":"2020-10-14T03:14:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nzsda.org.nz\/?p=14261"},"modified":"2020-10-14T16:14:26","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T03:14:26","slug":"what-you-need-to-know-about-apprenticeships-right-now-important","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nzsda.org.nz\/index.php\/2020\/10\/14\/what-you-need-to-know-about-apprenticeships-right-now-important\/","title":{"rendered":"What you need to know about Apprenticeships right now \u2013 Important!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Benefits for employers and trainees completing an apprenticeship now.<\/strong><br \/>\nApprenticeships are fees-free from 01 July 2020 to December 31 2022, for all currently enrolled and new apprentices.\u00a0 The initiatives not only include free apprenticeships, but also free traineeships in targeted areas, wage subsidies for employers of apprentices, and equipment for existing learners who do not have access to technology.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.competenz.org.nz\/jobseekers\/freeapprenticeships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.competenz.org.nz\/jobseekers\/freeapprenticeships\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Apprenticeship Wage Subsidy Boost Scheme for Employers \u2013 Paid monthly in advance.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.workandincome.govt.nz\/employers\/subsidiestraining-and-other-help\/apprenticeship-boost.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.workandincome.govt.nz\/employers\/subsidiestraining-and-other-help\/apprenticeship-boost.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Employers can apply for the Apprenticeship Boost which only applies to apprentices in their first or second year. (new and existing) Employers can receive an Apprenticeship Boost subsidy for a maximum of 20 months up until April 04, 2022.\u00a0 The subsidy scheme finishes on April 04, 2022 (need to apply ASAP):\u00a0 IE: If you apply in September 2020 = 19 months, October 2020 = 18 months, November 2020 = 17 months employer subsidy, etc&#8230; etc.<\/p>\n<p><em>How much you receive depends on whether your apprentice is in their first or second year of training:<\/em><br \/>\n\u2022 employers of first-year apprentices can get $1,000 a month<br \/>\n\u2022 employers of second-year apprentices can get $500 a month<br \/>\n\u2022 These amounts don\u2019t include GST.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Process<\/em><br \/>\nThere needs to be:<br \/>\n\u2022 An employment agreement in place<br \/>\n\u2022 New apprentice: Contact Competenz to sign up a candidate as an apprentice<br \/>\n\u2022 New apprentice: Competenz, employer and apprentice work together to create a training plan<br \/>\n\u2022 Employer registers and applies for Apprenticeship Boost subsidy through Work and Income (see link above) for any existing first and second-year apprentices or any new apprentices<br \/>\n\u2022 Apply for first month\u2019s payment\/s<br \/>\n\u2022 You\u2019ll need to reconfirm each month with Work and Income<br \/>\n\u2022 You can reconfirm by logging back into your account<br \/>\n\u2022 Apprenticeship Boost account. They\u2019ll send you a message when it\u2019s time to do this<br \/>\nYou must pay your apprentice at least the minimum or training wage.<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimum wage: $18.90 per hour<br \/>\n\u2022 Training wage: $15.12 per hour<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Benefits for employers and trainees completing an apprenticeship now.
