NZSDA’s new training scheme – Signee

Signee is the NZSDA’s new industry training scheme, created with the aim of providing training courses and workshops on a wide range of signage production skills from traditional techniques such as hand lettering through to technical computer and print based training such as colour management and graphic design. This training can be utilised by experienced sign makers and those looking at learning the trade.

The Signee Pre-Vocational training programme was very well received recently by students and teachers alike at the ….. …    2018 Careers Expo in Christchurch last week. The expo shows school leavers and teachers the wide range of career options and further education programmes that are available to them once they leave their school life. The Signee Pre-Vocational programme has been developed to give applicants the basic knowledge and industry skills to aid in their application for apprenticeships in signmaking.

This was a joint initiative between the NZSDA, The Master Sign Maker Network and Competenz our ITO provider.  The programme will educate school leavers with the skills and training they need to immediately become useful in a sign shop, from basic general sign making knowledge to working at heights and first aid, with NZQA credits applying directly to the Working with Heights and first aid units of which will be applied to their apprenticeship course if they proceed further with this career path.

We are currently in development of our courses and gathering feedback on what you, our members and industry see is important, so , if you are looking for an apprentice or just a junior sign maker and would like information on courses available for you and/or your staff register your interest on our website at www.signee.nz

A massive thank you to our event sponsors who donated materials and equipment to make the Christchurch Careers Expo a success for our industry:

Computaleta, Blueprint, Peek Display and Sign Supplies.
